18.1: Create a Wireframe

The first learning activity this week was to answer the 10 questions from the briefing form I created last week. We then had to use these answers and create a wireframe for a website. I chose to use the Product Website from the Mandatory Assignment I’m currently working on, since I will have to do this anyway.

  • What kind of visitors are you expecting on your website?

18-35, males and females, looking for healthier snacks that are cheap, and with low amounts of carbs etc.

  • What actions do you want the visitors to take on the site?

We wish to display our product (healthier chocolate balls), and encourage our visitors to buy these. They thus need good information about the product, and be told how to buy these. We also want them to get information about our campaign.

  • How many pages do you want?

We would like 4 pages: an index home page, an about (the product) page, a contact page, and the competition we’re launching with the product.

  • What do you want to be the first thing the visitors see when entering the site?

The product we offer: chocolate balls, displayed in a minimalistic and modern design.

  • What features should be used on the website?

Contact information, pictures, campaign.

  • Do you have any colour preferences? What should the look and feel of the website be?

We want to use the colours found on the chocolate balls: brown and white, and with a touch of green and black. The look and feel of the website should be healthy, inspiring and modern. We want our costumers to know that it’s quick and easy to make a purchase at our bakery, and you can always finish your busy day relaxing with our delicious product without feeling “guilty”.

  • Who will be the contact person for this project?

Phit Ness.

  • What’s the most important part of the website for you?

That it gives the visitors the impression that we are a serious company providing quality products. It needs to look professional, yet not strict and boring.

  • Do you already have a website? If so, what do you like or not like about it?

No, no website at the moment. But we would like the website to be rather minimalistic, easy to navigate, and have a nice kind of relaxing atmosphere.

  • What is the deadline for completing the site? How big is the budget?

Official launch Friday 6th of January 2017, but the front-end design should be done by October 28th 2016. Our budget is not very big at the moment.

From this I then created a wireframe I thought would suit this company and the product.

I did this by hand first, and then did an easier sketch in InDesign. So I chose to go with a lo-tech option for this wireframe, since the budget isn’t very high, and that made it easier than having to learn new, a little more complex and complicated programs. What I did in InDesign is almost like a hi-tech static wireframe though, but I would say this is a rather simple computer drawn sketch and choose to call it lo-tech.

Until next time, stay creative,
Monika
